What is a Butler Cafe?

Butlers at the 'Swallowtail' cafe in Tokyo, Japan
A "Butler Cafe" (also called a "Shitsuji Kissa" in Japan) is a themed restaurant. All elements of the restaurant are for the customer to feel as if they are of wealth or nobility, and they have their own butler to wait on them. The cafes feature a menu of mainly desserts or baked goods, as well as coffees and teas.

The butlers are all well dressed in full uniforms catering to the specific idea of that cafe. At Q. Victoria we chose a more royal elegance theme.

At Q. Victoria it is your Butler's job to make sure you are comfortable and pleased. They will address you by whichever honorific you choose (such as "My Lady" or "Madam"). All the while you and your friends can enjoy a beautiful and welcoming environment. We aim to be an escape from the real world for a unique dining experience.

The idea of the Butler Cafe is highly popularized in Japan's Tokyo area. They each have varying themes, but are all just as exclusive. Within a short time of opening, the top Japanese Butler Cafe "Swallowtail" began to require reservations months in advance. They have a counterpart known as "Maid Cafe" which is a similar concept, but with females dressed as maids. Two Maid Cafes have already opened in America; however, Q. Victoria will be the first of its kind in the states.

Butler Cafes and Maid Cafes have even been the subject of numerous Japanese television dramas (ex. "Happy Boys"), and they have been featured in many Japanese animated series (ex. "Lucky Star", "PokeMon", "The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzimiya"). These cafes have also been small events at many Japanese animation conventions around the United States.

Our goal with Q. Victoria is to create this unique experience and environment here in Huntsville, AL. We hope to be true to the original concepts of the cafes, while being something unique to our local customers.
